Faces that matter.
Portrait tattoos.
I’m Sean Connolly, a portrait tattoo artist in Canfield, Ohio, near Youngstown. I tattoo people, pets and recognizable characters in black and grey or color, with the face and expression at the center of the design.

The design
Start with
the expression.
The expression is often what makes a portrait feel like the person or animal you know. Tell me what you love about the reference, whether that is a smile, a particular look or a familiar pose. That gives the design a clear starting point.
My portfolio includes family portraits, dog portraits, animals, film characters and horror subjects. Some pieces focus entirely on the face. Others bring in surrounding imagery, color or a larger scene. Those choices should support the subject and work with the placement.
A portrait needs enough room for the features to read. Send the area you want tattooed and an approximate size rather than cropping or reshaping the reference yourself. We can build the composition around the face and the shape of your body.

Before you book
Choose clear
reference photos.
Send the original photo at the highest quality you have, rather than a screenshot of a screenshot. Clear eyes, visible facial features and usable lighting give me more information to work with. A few additional photos can help explain the subject.
For a pet portrait, tell me which markings or expression you want preserved. For a family portrait, point out the reference you prefer. Add placement, size and whether you are leaning toward black and grey or color in the booking request.
